Amadeo Musical Kindergarten
A musical daycare centre – combining university studies with professional practice.
In 2009 the University of the Arts teamed up with a local daycare centre (Kindertagesstätte St.-Johann) to establish the first day-care centre in Germany to operate in collaboration with a music university. Located in Bremen's Schnoor district, the centre's close proximity to the University's Faculty of Music makes it ideal for students wishing to combine university studies with a strong professional focus in the field of early childhood care and music education.
Students of elementary music education and other programmes will benefit substantially throughout the programme and in subsequent studies from the close cooperative ties between the department and the centre's administration as well as the practical focus of this initiative and its unique setting.
The centre's music education programme supports students of both Bachelor's and Master's programmes and includes weekly elementary music lessons attended by all of the centre’s children and special concerts for the children and daycare teachers each semester. These concerts are performed by small ensembles of students drawn from all our programmes.
A CPD programme focussed on early childhood care – "Elementary Music Education in Daycare Centres" – was launched by the University in 2010. Targeting teachers from Bremen and Lower Saxony, this intensive training programme is designed especially to enrich musical and educational practice in daycare centres.
