Music Theory (M.M., KPA)

© Hochschule für Künste Bremen – Anja Segermann

At the HfK Bremen, Music Theory, ear training and form knowledge/analysis are essential components of the basic training for all degree programmes. In addition to the compulsory subject, the HfK also offers a Master Music Theory. The latter is located in the context of Artistic-Pedagogical Training because the focus is on acquiring qualifications for teaching music theory. The teaching typically includes aspects of communicating topics in the field to different target audiences.

The course includes artistic, scientific and educational components in equal measure and can easily be combined with a subsequent doctoral program (PhD or Dr. phil.). Specialisations in Music Theory for Early Music and Jazz Theory are possible. In terms of content, access to music from a wide range of styles via certain models plays an important role in this subject.
