Lorenz Potthast is an interdisciplinary designer with an artistic approach, technological interest and cultural empathy. On the one hand he uses the possibilities of Digital Media as a new way of playful, artistic expression while on the other hand he investigates the implications of a transforming digitalized and globalized world through critical research and analysis.
Lorenz studied Integrated Design at the University of Arts in Bremen and Interaction Design at IUAV Venice. He is a co-founding member of the Audio-Visual Art collective Xenorama. After his Bachelor he worked for one year as Multimedia Centre Coordinator at the BAT Centre in Durban, South Africa as part of an cultural, social exchange. Currently he is studying in the Master of Digital Media at the HfK Bremen and organises MEET YOUR NEIGHBOURS, a platform for intercultural exchange.
His projects won several national and international awards, including the New Face Award at Japan Media Art Festival, Innovation by Design Award New York, the Annual Multimedia Award Germany and the annual Award of his University. His works were shown amongst others at the National Arts Center Tokyo, Museum of Moving Images New York, CCCB Barcelona, Techkriti Festival in India, European Media Art Festival, Schlosslichtspiele at ZKM Karlsruhe and published in several magazines including WIRED, The Guardian, neural magazine and Fast Company.
