Wie bei meiner eigenen künstlerischen Praxis steht bei meiner Lehrtätigkeit mit der Klasse die Idee und deren Umsetzungsprozess im Vordergrund. Dabei geht es mir vor allem darum, gemeinsam mit den Studenten nachhaltige und dynamische Arbeitsprozesse in Gang zu setzen und Strategien zu erarbeiten, die ihnen über den Hochschulabschluss hinaus individuelle Perspektiven und Wege erschließen. Konzeptuelle Herangehensweisen und intensive Gruppendiskussionen sollen die Entwicklung des Einzelnen dabei über die Erfahrung und den künstlerischen Prozess im Kollektiv fördern, der kritische Geist soll geschult werden, unsere Welt und ihre Imagination aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu suggerieren.

In meinen analog gedrehten Filmen hinterfrage ich die Gegenwart und die Weise, wie wir den Raum einnehmen – sowohl mental als auch körperlich. Objekte und Landschaften stehen im Mittelpunkt, die von der Kamera aufgespürt und nachgezeichnet werden - Ausdruck einer visuellen Konzeption von Zeit, die in direkten Bezug zu Raum und Gestalt gesetzt wird. Orte und Situationen werden auf historische Spuren, gesellschaftliche Einschreibungen und Klimaveränderungen erforscht, um sie dann mit eigenen narrativen Ebenen zu Fiktionen zu verweben.

Den Studenten werden bei Technik und Medien keine Grenzen gesetzt, transdisziplinäre Ansätze werden gefördert. Der gesamte Prozess wird im Plenum besprochen, erarbeitet und begleitet. Unterstützt und bereichert wird er von den regelmäßig eingeladenen lehrenden KünstlerInnen und technischen Workshops. Seit 2017 wird die Klasse kontinuierlich von den Besuchen des Video- und Soundkünstlers James Richards unterstützt.

Im WS 2018/2019 finden die Plenen in der Kunsthalle Bremen als öffentliche Veranstaltung in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kuratorin Eefke Kleimann statt.

Like in my own artistic practice the idea and its realization process are the focus of my teaching activity with the class. My main concern is to set in motion enduring and dynamic working processes and to develop strategies, which serve to open up individual perspectives and career paths aimed far beyond the university degree. Conceptual approaches and intense group discussions are laid out to support the personal development of the single students through a collective experience, and to train the critical mind to suggest solutions and transpositions from themes that surround us from various perspectives.

My own work centers on a conceptual approach to film. Beside experimental filmmaking, it includes installations, sculptural works based on language and text and printed artist’s publications.

In my works, I question our present reality and our way of occupying the space that surrounds us – mentally and physically. Preferred subjects of my analogue films are objects and landscapes which are detected and retraced by the film camera – expressions of a visual concept of time, directly linked to space and shape. Places and situations are explored for historical traces and interwoven with new narrative layers to fiction.

Regarding techniques and media, the students are free, and transdisciplinary approaches are explicitly encouraged. The creative process is discussed, developed and accompanied by the plenum. Furthermore, it is supported and enriched by the lecturing guest artists, who are regularly invited, and by technical workshops. Since 2017, the class has been continuously assisted by the visits of the video and sound artist James Richards.

During the winter semester 2018/2019, plenums will be hosted by Kunsthalle Bremen, in collaboration with the curator Eefke Kleimann.

Rosa Barba studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne followed by a residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
