Cosima zu Knyphausen – Das Große Bild

Since leaving art school with an exhibition titled Das Große Bild, Cosima zu Knyphausen’s practice has been devoted to making paintings.
Examining a possible Big Picture of her work in the past years, Cosima zu Knyphausen will look at what constitutes the mosaic of life in and around the studio.

Cosima zu Knyphausen (Chile/DE) lives and works in Berlin.
Often departing from literary or artistic references, her paintings seem to tap into the space between the intimate and the historic. Highlighting the entanglement of creation and desire, her motifs repeatedly (re)visit and engage with queer or female spaces: from depictions of homo bars, settings in the artists own studio, meditations on the muse, all the way to illuminations from Christine de Pizan’s literary utopia The Book of the City of Ladies.

Past solo exhibitions include: The End surprised me, Weiss Falk, Basel (2022); Pinturas de Género, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago (2022); Closet Drama, piloto pardo, London (2021) and Ich und mein Modell, stadium, Berlin (2020).
