Lecture Series Fine Arts - Schirin Kretschmann
Lecture Series Fine Arts – Schirin Kretschmann
Lecture / 13.04.2022
Inbetween the lecture series Schirin Kretschmann will talk about herself and her work.
Fine Lines between ‘nothing’ and ‘something’.
Painting in the expanded field.
Schirin Kretschmanns work oscillates between painting-as-installation art and its liminal convergences with process-based practices. The often improvised and only temporarily stable materiality of the works opens up a space of experience that involves the viewer in a game of multiple, also synesthetic perceptions. The specific use of color serves to superimpose, dissolve, or create structures and intertwines everyday- and exhibition spaces. Kretschmann's works are understood in particular as archaeological strategies to uncover the elementary experiences of material and duration, which in our everyday world are often overlaid by technical and virtual substitute actions.
Schirin Kretschmann (*1980 in Karlsruhe, lives and works in Berlin and Munich) has developed works for public spaces as well as international galleries and institutions (Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Kunstverein Hannover, Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Magazin4 Bregenzer Kunstverein/A, Kunstverein Salzburg/A, Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur/CH, Kunsthaus Baselland/CH, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts/VRC, Kunstverein Freiburg, Kunstverein Salzburg/A, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn, CAPC Coimbra/Pt, CRAC Alsace/F et al.) and has received numerous awards. She studied Fine Arts at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe and at the ENPEG La Esmeralda Mexico City as well as German Studies at the University of Freiburg. In artistic and curatorial research projects (Praeparat Bergsturz, Bern University of the Arts, six notes for the next… Magazin4, Bregenz Kunstverein, DFG-Centre for Advanced Studies “Imaginaria of Force” at the University of Hamburg) she was working on transdisciplinary methods of knowledge and iconic research. She is doing an artistic PhD and researching on Liminals of Painting in the expanded field (NCCR Iconic Criticism, University of Basel and Bauhaus-University Weimar). She has taught at international art and design colleges. Since 2020 she is professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
