Lectureseries Freie Kunst - Lisa Oppenheim
Spine: Lisa Oppenheim, new and recent work
Lectureseries / 04.12.2019
Lisa Oppenheim will talk about her and her work.
Lisa Oppenheim will be giving a talk about recent work that looks at the ways in which different histories, from a locust plague in the Holy Land at the beginning of the 20th century to the labor of young women in American sweatshops in the same era, are not only seen through but also haunt the present. These stories are inscribed in material, and working mostly in photography, textiles and film, Oppenheim has built a practice that attempts to extract these narratives from the materials they inhabit. She is a graduate of Brown University, The Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program, the Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts at Bard College and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. She has exhibited throughout the US and Europe and her work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Guggenheim, SF MoMA, and Centre Pompidou amongst others institutions. She is represented be the Approach in London and Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York and LA.
