Matteo Pasquinelli & Vladan Joler - The Nooscope Manifested / AI as Instrument of Knowledge Extractivism
Vortragsreihe / 07.05.2020
Aufgrund der Covid19-Pandemie findet der Vortrag am 07.05. in einer (halb)öffentlichen Online-Version statt.
"The Nooscope is a cartography of the limits of artificial
intelligence, intended as a provocation to both computer science and the humanities. Any map is a partial perspective, a way to provoke debate. Similarly, this map is a manifesto — of AI dissidents."
In their talk Matteo Pasquinelli and Vladan Joler will challenge the ideological status of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an
‚intelligent machine‘ and trace how it works and how it fails. The talk addresses crucial problems like algorithmic bias, machine learning and knowledge extractivism at a pivotal moment, when ever more areas and activities become accessible to algorithmic governance and automation.
The Nooscope is a visual manifesto of AI as instrument of knowledge extractivism. The large diagram and essay by Matteo Pasquinelli and Vladan Joler were first published on May Day 2020 and can be browsed online or downloaded in PDF format and printed on a large scale. The Nooscope serves as a critical tool for AI studies and also as an experiment in academic publication.
