“WHY LISTEN TO MY OWN VOICE WHEN I CAN HEAR OTHERS?” (Bete & Deise)
A lecture and screening by Wendelien van Oldenborgh
After a screening of Bete & Deise (2012), with Brazilian politically active telenovela actress Bete Mendes and Baile Funk singer Deize Tigrona, Wendelien van Oldenborgh will speak about her method of producing film installations as well as her collaborative exhibition with Céline Condorelli which took place this summer.
Cultural production like music, but also architecture, as a form of political voice has been a recurrent element in van Oldenborgh’s productions. Her film works don’t rely on a written script, but more on a gathering of ‘voices’ for a film shoot, in which the invited protagonists exchange or display their knowledges in various scenes and spaces. Forms of collaboration are key to her practice.
