Threads and yarns strung together the history
of technological advancements. From
weaving shaping mathematics, computing
and space travel, to textile processing
becoming a relevant carrier of tradition in
many cultures, the algorithmic use of thread
played an important role in shaping society.
As Sadie Plant once stated: "Textiles
themselves are very literally the software's
linings of all technology."
Together, we will look at examples of how
textile processing shaped culture and
technology.
This will be accompanied by hands-on
practice with textiles (weaving, e-textiles)
and electronics (Arduino, soldering).
We will meet in an introductory kick-off
meeting, then in three 2-day blocks during
July, August and September. The class
