HfK Jazzclub | Bartus/Dudli Quartet feat. Wayne Escoffery

„On Fire“ would probably be the first thing this Quartet what comes to someone’s mind when hearing this quartet. Only recently. Alan, Pista and Joris started their collaboration as a trio, experiencing an amazing chemistry together. Wayne and Joris first met musically in 2018 and toured with the "New York Jazz Partners" in 2021. For the past two years, they have been part of Vincent Herring's soul/ funk band "Something Else!" and subsequently decided to continue their collaboration with this new, highly energetic quartet.

Wayne Escoffery
Escoffery emigrated to the United States with his mother and studied at Jazzmobile in New York City, the Neighborhood Music School, and in New Haven with Jackie McLean. In 1997, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance. From 1997 to 1999, he continued his studies at the Thelonious Monk Institute at the New England Conservatory in Boston. During this time, he toured with Herbie Hancock. Since 2000, he has worked in New York City with artists including Tom Harell, Carl Allen, Eric Reed, the Mingus Big Band, Ralph Peterson, Rufus Reid, Ron Carter, and Eddie Henderson. Alan Bartus
In 2023, Alan was the only European pianist selected for the semi-finals of the world's most prestigious jazz competition, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition. Alan has also collaborated with American jazz legend Jerry Bergonzi. He has recorded and toured with the acclaimed New York saxophonist Tim Armacost. Alan's new albums, SOLOLOGY and BORN IN MILLENNIUM (featuring Gregory Hutchinson, among others), have garnered attention and excellent reviews. In 2024, Alan was awarded the Dave Brubeck Composer and Award.

Joris Dudli
In 2002, Joe Zawinul said, "Get the Dudli..." This statement came after Joris stepped in to play for the Zawinul Syndicate at Casino Velden. With these words, the long list of "played with so-and-so" should have been settled. Nevertheless, here's a brief overview: Joris was a permanent member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and the Art Farmer Quintet from 1979 to 1985. After moving to the USA in 1986, he began collaborating with many world-renowned jazz musicians, most notably Vincent Herring, Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Johnny Griffin, Mullgrew Miller, Clifford Jordan, Joe Lovano, Joe Henderson, Sonny Fortune, and many more. With his latest productions, "Boundaries Expanded" and "A Real Soul Chemistry," Joris demonstrates that he has significantly expanded his artistic boundary.

Der „hfk jazzclub“ ist die Spielstätte des zeitgenössischen Jazz in Bremen. Jeden Dienstag im Semester finden um 20 Uhr im Kellergewölbe der Hochschule für Musik Konzerte und Sessions mit Musiker:innen der Hochschule und lokalen sowie nationalen Musiker:innen statt. Hier wird leidenschaftlich gejammt, oder es werden Tryout-Programme der Studierenden präsentiert. Auch Semesterprojekte der Rehearsal Band und themenorientierte Konzertprogramme werden geboten. Kurz: eine Ideenschmiede in Sachen Jazz und Treffpunkt der Bremer Jazzszene.
