Antrittsvorlesung Prof. Katharina Nejdl

What does a digital publication look like? What shapes do we take online? Can AI design posters? Katharina Nejdl deals with these and other questions in her work. As a designer, developer and educator, she is interested in using digital technologies as graphic design tools. 

Since 2017, Nejdl has worked as a freelance graphic designer and developer, creating print publications, posters and corporate identities as well as websites and interactive installations for the arts and cultural sector. Her research investigates digital editorial formats, AI-driven design processes, and the critical use of code as a creative method [katharinanejdl.com].

In 2019, she co-founded ­ – a digital literature magazine exploring reading, writing, and publishing practices online. Its six issues address themes such as participation, translation, and touch  [andshymagazine.com]. Her design research also includes projects combining analogue and digital through augmented reality, examining digital community spaces [together-online.net] and reflecting on our relationship with the screen.

Katharina Nejdl studied at Sandberg Instituut, UdK Berlin as well as ZHdK Zurich. She received the Stimulerings Talent Development Grant in 2023 for her project Creative Coding as a Tool for Design and developed GridType, a grid-based parametric type tool [grid-type.com].

Katharina Nejdl gives talks, workshops, and taught at different art and design schools, among others at Burg Halle, HfBK Hamburg, KH Kassel and as administrative professor for digital basics at HBK Braunschweig.
