Artists as Independent Publishers

“Artists as Independent Publishers” presents artists’ books created as part of a teaching and exhibition project focused on artists’ books and artistic publishing. Within specialized courses at six art academies, students from various disciplines developed and produced their own publications.

The project was initiated for the fourth time by the Hochschule für Künste Bremen and realized there by Heike Kati Barath, Lena Judith Bartels, Katrin von Maltzahn, Tim Schöning, and Zane Zlemeša. Participating institutions also include the University of Applied Arts Vienna, St. Lucas School of Arts Antwerp, Kunsthochschule Kassel, HfG Offenbach am Main, and the Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa.

Following the opening exhibition at the Klingspor Museum in Offenbach, the presentation in Bremen is the second stop in the exhibition series. In September, it will continue in Antwerp and will subsequently be shown in further cities of the participating partner institutions.
