Traverso

From the original simple wooden pipe to today's metal tool with complex Böhm mechanics - hardly any instrument has moved as far away from its primitive form over the centuries as the traverso or flute. And this is precisely what makes studying the predecessor instruments – namely the transverse flutes – particularly exciting: at the HfK Bremen we engage with a wide variety of repertoire, styles and instrument shapes at the highest level.

Whether Renaissance consort, suite or sonata from the Baroque period, Classical or Romantic chamber music: our institution has the appropriate flute and keyboard instruments, and in addition to the practical courses and theoretical subjects, several orchestral projects per semester are carried out in an extensive, interactive and constantly growing department for Early Music. Thus, the flute training at the HfK fosters the students' development into enthusiastic and accomplished professional musicians.
