Viola da Gamba

The subject Viola da Gamba is offered as part of the Early Music training in Bremen. Here, students have the opportunity to engage with all aspects of the literature for the instrument from the 16th to 19th centuries, especially with solo and ensemble works between 1550 and 1750. There are regular concerts inside and outside the house in solo and ensemble formations. Digital expansion options for rehearsal work – remote rehearsal tools – are also used to collaborate with students and teachers from other music universities and to develop new performance formats. The class has instruments of various sizes and stylistic periods available, a five-part Renaissance consort, Baroque viols and violas. Our own library, the “Archiv Veronika Hampe” containing all important treatises and reference works, as well as an extensive archive of sheet music facilitate inspire work and research.
