ALIVE / A-LIFE – Vernissage
Opening hours
Exhibition: 30 October – 1 November 2026, daily midday–6pm
What do machines do when we sleep? To what extent do autonomous systems encroach upon our private lives? And how can we make the constant activity of these systems tangible through visualisation, physical translation, sonification, hacking or reinterpretation?
The exhibition ‘Alive / A-Life’ explores the autonomy and (apparent) aliveness of machines and algorithms. Through material investigations, kinetic objects and experiments with machines, it examines the field of Artificial Life (ALife). Bachelor’s and Master’s students from the Digital Media study programme ask at what point an object, a machine or an algorithm appears to be alive, inviting visitors to rethink the boundary between the mechanical and the living.
At the vernissage on Thursday 29 October, Radio Angrezi accompanies the evening from 6pm with drinks and a special BARADIO broadcast on 92.5 FM.
