Gerriet K. Sharma is a composer, sound artist and artistic researcher in the field of interdisciplinary spatial practices. Over the past 20 years, he has worked intensively on the spatialisation of electroacoustic and instrumental compositions using ambisonics and wave field synthesis, as well as on processes of transforming sound into three-dimensional sound sculptures in XR environments. From 2009 to 2015, he was the curator and initiator of the concert series ‘signale-graz’ for electroacoustic music, algorithmic composition, radio art and performance in the Ligeti Hall of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). His compositions and installations have been presented at numerous international festivals and in exhibition halls. In 2016, he received his doctorate from the scientific-artistic doctoral school of the KUG on the sculpturality of sound phenomena. He has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships and was appointed Edgard Varèse Professor at the Electronic Studio of the TU Berlin in 2017. In 2020, he co-founded the ‘Lab for Spatial Aesthetics in Sound’ (spæs) at Funkhaus Berlin. From 2022 to 2024, he was appointed visiting professor for experimental sound and space at the HfG Karlsruhe.
In October 2024, his AI-assisted composition for chamber orchestra, electronics, spatialisation with two IKOs and reactive piano, ‘This is Water,’ premiered in the Beethoven Hall of the Liederhalle Stuttgart.
