HfK Jazzclub: Jonas Schön Quartet
Jonas Schoen-Philbert (sax), Buggy Braune (piano), Markus Schieferdecker (bass) and Christian Schoenfeldt (drums) – four musicians with strong individual styles coming together for the first time in this line-up – promise an energetic, soulful and colourful opening set.
Jonas Schoen-Philbert, born in Hamburg and now based in Berlin, holds a professorship in Hanover and has been active for over 30 years as a saxophonist, composer, arranger and bandleader in a wide variety of musical contexts. Naturally curious, he is boundlessly creative and always on the lookout for new combinations and possibilities. He is regarded as a highly melodic player.
He has enjoyed an almost equally long and close collaboration with Buggy Braune, a professor of piano in Hamburg.
Christian Schoenefeldt performs as a drummer in various jazz ensembles across Europe and on numerous radio and CD productions, and has worked with artists including Benny Golson, Jimmy Woode, Herb Geller, Richie Beirach, Ian McDougle, Bobby Lamp, Bennie Bailey, Tony Lakatos, Dusko Goykovich, Doug Rainey and Peter Herbolzheimer.
Markus Schieferdecker, who has been a professor in Bremen since 2020, has performed with, amongst others, Albert Mangelsdorff, Bill Stewart, Kevin Hays, Danny Grissett, Vincent Herring, Dusko Goykovich, Christof Lauer, Fritz Pauer, Maria Schneider, Bob Degen, Michel Pilz, Peter Perfido, Jonas Burgwinkel, Valentin Garvie, Heinz Sauer, Jochen Rückert, Thomas Rückert, Martin Sasse, Julian Wasserfuhr, Albrecht Maurer, Mat Manerie, Antonio Farao, Christian Lillinger, Thilo Wolf, Bert Joris, Jesse Milliner, Reiner Witzel, Karolina Strassmayer, Johann Hörlen, Rudi Mahall, Bob Malach, Clark Terry and Lee Konitz.

The "hfk jazzclub" is the venue for contemporary jazz in Bremen. Concerts and sessions with musicians from the university and local and national musicians take place every Tuesday of the semester at 8 p.m. in the basement vault of the University of Music. Passionate jamming takes place here, or student tryout programmes are presented. Semester projects by the Rehearsal Band and themed concert programmes are also on offer. In short: a think tank for jazz and a meeting place for Bremen's jazz scene.
