Inspired by duos such as Nils Wogram & Joe Sachse or Kevin Hays & Lionel Loueke, the Olesch/Konertz Duo presents a sound all of its own. Their music is characterised by a playful lightness and constant musical wit, which transforms their unique musical dialogue into a “conversation” (Weser Kurier, 29 January 2023).

Their own compositions are characterised by a high degree of improvisational freedom and offer a complex musical expression that often transcends genre boundaries.

Trombonist Erik Konertz is a musical boundary-breaker. Inspired by trombonists such as Albert Mangelsdorff and Nils Wogram, he constantly explores the instrument’s technical and sonic possibilities at every opportunity. As a former member of the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO), he played alongside jazz greats such as Randy Brecker, John Clayton, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Nils Wogram from a young age. Konertz performs regularly throughout Germany as a soloist and ensemble member with renowned groups such as the NDR Big Band and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Erik Konertz is also a lecturer in jazz trombone and big band at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover.

‘We always have an immediate understanding of our playing, our personalities and our interactions, and can make music together without any rehearsal at all. Not only is this incredibly beautiful and inspiring for me; I am firmly convinced that it is also absolutely fascinating to witness how the two of us constantly find new ways to perform our pieces, adapting to the specific venue and atmosphere.’ (Christopher Olesch)

Erik Konertz and Christopher Olesch form a duo with a long musical history. From their first encounters in Oldenburg, through their time studying for their bachelor’s degrees together in Bremen, to their current home in Hamburg, their collaboration has continued to evolve.

The "hfk jazzclub" is the venue for contemporary jazz in Bremen. Concerts and sessions with musicians from the university and local and national musicians take place every Tuesday of the semester at 8 pm in the basement vault of the University of Music. Passionate jamming takes place here, or student tryout programmes are presented. Semester projects by the Rehearsal Band and themed concert programmes are also on offer. In short: a think tank for jazz and a meeting place for Bremen's jazz scene.
