Over the past two years, Prof. Markus Schieferdecker has accompanied the international jazz workshop in Heek at the invitation of Prof. Peter Weniger. There, the idea arose to play a trio concert in Bremen, followed by a compact seminar for the students of the HfK. A saxophone trio without piano or guitar, based on standards, is high art. Peter Weniger is no ordinary saxophonist: he heads the jazz department in Berlin, is an internationally sought-after musician and has worked with the ‘who's who’ of the international music scene. Together with Markus Schieferdecker and Christian Schönefeld, he will open the evening. This will be followed by the end-of-semester concert of the jazz department of the HfK Bremen. The Christian Schönefeld Combo and the HfK Big Band conducted by Chris Torkewitz will perform, as well as the Weniger – Schieferdecker – Schönefeld Trio.

The "hfk jazzclub" is the venue for contemporary jazz in Bremen. Concerts and sessions with musicians from the university and local and national musicians take place every Tuesday of the semester at 9 pm in the basement vault of the University of Music. Passionate jamming takes place here, or student tryout programmes are presented. Semester projects by the Rehearsal Band and themed concert programmes are also on offer. In short: a think tank for jazz and a meeting place for Bremen's jazz scene.

Please note: Starting in the summer semester, the start time for the HfK-Jazzclub will change from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.! The first date is 8 April 2026.
