Vergangene Veranstaltung Venice served as both a model and a source of inspiration for numerous cities in Northern Europe, particularly during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Amsterdam, Brügge, Hamburg, Copenhagen and various other urban centers proudly dubbed themselves “Venice of the North.” Composers like Heinrich Schütz travelled to Venice to perfect their skills, while others, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, imported and performed the latest compositions by Venetian maestros like Antonio Vivaldi and Benedetto Marcello.
In the forthcoming edition of the WinterAcademy and Historic Brass Studio, our aim is to explore the musical trade routes between the enchanting Lagoon City and the far reaches of Northern Europe.
