Kurdish sounds meet jazz: Jazzochist Kurd blends traditional Kurdish folk songs with contemporary ethno-jazz and free improvisation. Under the direction of singer and composer Yekbûn Sincar, a sound emerges that bridges tradition and the present – carried by the lute, saxophone, flute, piano, double bass and drums.

The pieces remain close to their melodic and rhythmic roots whilst simultaneously opening up space for spontaneous developments and shared musical storytelling. The result is a concert that changes with every moment – lively, multi-layered and full of encounters between Kurdish music and jazz.

The line-up:

  • Yekbûn Sincar – vocals & lavta
  • Annett Becker-Edert – flute & saxophone
  • Sarah Mysegaes – drums
  • Martin Gruet – double bass
  • Yadamjav Battogtokh – piano
