The Weserantikorrekturprojekt takes as a starting point the history of large-scale water engineering project known as the Korrektions der Unterwesser, and puts into question what was intended with the term “river correction”. At the end of the 18th century, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen embarked on the resolution of straightening part of the lower Weser, with the intention of allowing larger merchant ships to arrive in Bremen. This gives a glimpse to the still ongoing troubled relations between colonialism, territory, bodies of water and maritime trade, in the context of Western-capitalist societies.

The exhibition is part of the research done in the context of the Artistic Reseach PhD Programme and takes the form of sculptures, video installations and performance. There will be an activation of the installation during the opening and further activations during the following days.
