Lukas Henkensiefken (piano) and Carl Rabbels (trombone) have been awarded a second national prize in the duo category ‘Piano and a Brass Instrument’ at this year’s Jugend musiziert national competition. The national round took place from 5 to 11 June in Wuppertal and provided a platform for more than 1,800 young musicians from across Germany. Both Lukas and Carl are junior students at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK Bremen), where Lukas studies in Almut Cordes’ piano class and Carl in Matthias Weiß’s trombone class. They formed their duo at the university and performed a programme featuring works by Paul Hindemith, Camille Saint-Saëns and Kazimierz Serocki.
All national participants had to successfully pass the first two stages of Germany’s most significant and largest music competition for young people—first at the regional level and then at the state level—before qualifying for the national round.
