On Saturday, 21 June 2025, the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) opened its doors for a day filled with sound, as part of the globally celebrated Fête de la Musique. For over ten hours, the historic building on Dechanatstraße was transformed into a lively hub for music lovers of all ages.
Students and teaching staff collaborated to create a rich and high-quality programme featuring more than 30 events across seven stages – from the concert hall to the stairwell, from the courtyard to virtual spaces. The day began with festive brass music and a welcome address by Prof Dr Florian Edler, Dean of the Department of Music.
Whether it was classical repertoire such as Ravel’s String Quartet, experimental improvisations in the ‘ComCom’ format, passionate baroque music with Ensemble Incendio, or electroacoustic soundscapes in the studio – each hour offered new artistic perspectives. Particularly vibrant: the courtyard on Dechanatstraße, an interactive children’s concert, a music exchange hosted by the Klaus Kuhnke Institute, and advisory sessions for prospective students.
The HfK didn’t just open its doors – it opened up spaces for connection, exchange, and shared joy through music. Visitors, colleagues, and guests of all generations came to listen, explore, and stay – many returning more than once throughout the day.
