Apply Now: Jazz-Studium

Das Bewerbungsportal ist noch bis zum 10. April 2023 für Studienanfänger:innen geöffnet

APPLY NOW: The application portal for the Bachelor of Music in Artistic Education and Artistic-Pedagogical Education in Jazz is open for first-year students until 10 April 2023.

Continuing tradition into the future is the life elixir of jazz. In this situational music, artists of every generation, origin and cultural identity live out their creativity. The boundless play with each other stands for individuality, freedom, openness, tolerance, diversity, experimentation - and this is exactly what the jazz program at the Hochschule für Künste (HfK) Bremen teaches, right in the middle of the historic old town. Everyone can experience jazz in the HfK Musikkeller, where weekly jam sessions take place, as well as its own concert series, the Jazzahead Clubnight, the New Dimension, and the big end-of-semester festival of all HfK bands.

For potential professionals, the program offers international workshops. After welcoming musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Mintzer and Portinho, new compact workshops are now on the agenda, which always end with a concert in the Musikkeller. Courses will be given by Izabella Effenberg (vibraphone), Isabelle Bodenseh (flute) and Milena Hoge (harp) as "Women in Jazz" on April 28, 2023, and the Wayne Escoffery Quartet will come to the HfK Bremen on May 30, 2023 – with pianist Dave Kikovskie, bassist Ugonna Okegwo, drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. and the bandleader on saxophone. Registrations are accepted by the Artistic Operations Office of the HfK Bremen: kbb@hfk-bremen.de.

If you are interested in studying jazz in Bremen, you can find information about the instrumental training here and about the artistic-pedagogical area here. The application portal for a KA or KPA Jazz is open until April 10, 2023 for new students. The entrance examinations take place at the high location on Dechanatstraße. Good to know: Bremen is one of the few large German cities where affordable housing is still available.
