Mi-El Kwak – Schmelzende Nostalgie
Speicher XI A (Hall 1): I create my own personal, very colourful cosmos from everyday objects that develop an unexpected life of their own and evoke memories of childhood.
My painting oscillates between grotesque cheerfulness and a colourful abyss.
In my work, colours and patterns combine with feelings and atmospheres.
A recurring motif is the teddy bear, a fluffy cuddly toy that gives children a sense of security - and, as a commercialised symbol of cuteness, refers to the dream of the domesticated predator.
Not everything from the past is within our grasp. We can't have everything we want.
I capture memories of everyday experiences that were formative and valuable for me on canvas or as an object.
This is what I call melting broken nostalgia.

Chaekyoung Lee – tba
Speicher XI A (Hall 1): Since studying alone in Germany for the first time, the concept of the house has established itself as my own space. I can do anything I want there.
A room with a chair, a bed and a sofa where I stay. All the furniture and objects in my home, with my own touch, have given me a sense of calm, as if they have a vitality of their own.
I paint my new home, which exists somewhere between reality and imagination.
Shoji Matsumoto – o.T.
Speicher XI A (Hall 1): Every day, something trivial, sorrowful, humorous, or beautiful happens. Remembering these days, I have drawn lines and colored them. The vocabulary used in the visual language is easy and simple, but it can also be misread. It is improvisational and continuous. There are good days and bad days. But anyway, I try to make something on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be anything special.
Yoriko Seto – Verschwinden
Speicher XI A (Hall 1): People have families, sometimes circles of friends similar to families. Every family, including mine of course, has its own history and stories. When I travelled to Japan again a few years ago, my aunt told me about my great-grandfather and grandfather. They had been dead for a long time and I had never met them. At the time, I was very interested in these stories because I didn't know them. Back in Germany, I drew pictures of these stories. I wanted to capture as much as possible as quickly as possible. And I began to incorporate the exploration of my roots into the production process.
When I returned to Bremen from Japan, many things came back to me. I was actually back in Germany, but the four weeks in Japan were still very vivid in my mind. Now, as I write this text, I realise how the memories are fading. In my head (and perhaps also in my heart) there is a container of water, and when I drop ink into the water, the colour in the water develops beautifully, then gradually fades and finally disappears. Are memories similar to ink? I didn't want to forget what I experienced and thought, but I suppose forgetting is as normal as the ink losing its colour ...
Cantufan Klose – Futuralgia
Video studio (Room 1.12.100) in Speicher XI: A film by Cantufan Klose
In spring 2020, rehearsals for the dance piece Futuralgia at Bremen Theatre came to an abrupt end. The coronavirus lockdown forces the artistic team into isolation. The dancers from the Unusual Symptoms company went home and the choreographer left. But the artistic dialogue continues between Bremen and Barcelona with the help of digital tools. Private flats become rehearsal stages and fitness studios. Between joint Zoom sessions and working with workout apps, YouTube dances and yoga tutorials, a dance piece is created in the virtual world - which ultimately returns to the stage.
In their film, Bremen-based video artist Cantufan Klose and Catalan choreographer Núria Guiu Sagarra delve deep into this exceptional situation once again. In a mixture of documentary and fiction, they take up the dancers' experiences and follow them in their attempt to create a sense of community over distance and bring the body to life in the mirror of its virtual images.
