Elnaz Seyedi, born in Tehran (Iran) in 1982, has been appointed acting professor of composition and music theory at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. She began her studies at the HfK Bremen in 2007 under Prof. Younghi Pagh-Paan and continued them from 2011 under Prof. Jörg Birkenkötter. Seyedi completed her diploma in 2014. If one were to replace the word ‘melody’ in Ernst Kurth’s Grundlagen des linearen Kontrapunkts (1917) with the word ‘sound’, writes Seyedi’s music publisher Topos, Kurth’s definition of melody could also apply to the music of Elnaz Seyedi: “Melody is flowing power. The very essence of a melodic line is becoming, the urge towards form, which always lies latent within it and which must be fully felt as living energy.”
