The new exhibition by Meisterschüler:innen from the Bremen University of the Arts (HfK) opens up a multifaceted space for contemporary art and current discourse on the third floor of the Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst. From 27 June to 10 August 2025, twelve emerging artists will present new works across almost 800 square metres, navigating between the personal and the political, physicality and the digital realm, introspection and social analysis.

The poetic title of the exhibition – ‘what is that invisible thing your arm is resting on’ – is not merely a question, but points to the invisible foundation upon which we rely: morally, emotionally, physically or socially. The works explore this idea in a wide range of formats – from sculptural and installation-based pieces to sound, film and cross-media explorations of digital realities.

Curated by Julian Lautenbach, the exhibition brings together diverse artistic approaches addressing themes such as biographical rupture, urban melancholy, social alienation and personal empowerment. Many of the works arise from individual experience, while simultaneously negotiating that experience within a collective space. The museum becomes not only a site of presentation, but also a space for self-reflection, debate – and dialogue.

Participating artists: Vafa Aminikia, Joya Bahkyi, Noelle BuAbbud, Reika Hattori, Yuxiao Huang, Minjeong Park, Leon Sahiti, Caroline Antonia Schlingemann, Yuliya Tsviatkova, Abdulghaffar Tammaa, Florian Witt und Guibok Yang

A collaboration between the University of the Arts Bremen and the Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst
