On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, Prof. Dr Mirjam Boggasch, Rector of HfK Bremen, Maike Frese, State Councillor to the Senator for Economic Affairs, and M3B Managing Directors Felix Böhme and Hans Peter Schneider officially opened the 8th Open Space Summer.

Until 8 August, Domshof will be transformed into an open-air venue for art, culture and social interaction under the artistic direction of HfK Bremen. The concept proved a success from the very first evening. Musical performances were provided by Stella Rodenbusch, a jazz vocal student at HfK Bremen, accompanied by fellow student Jonas Roustai on guitar, as well as by the HfK trombone class. The interdisciplinary HfK opera project arios was also presented. The evening concluded with a performance by KOTA NO UTA, whose distinctive sound draws on neo-soul, jazz and folk influences.

Sometimes a dance floor, sometimes a stage, sometimes a meeting place: Domshof changes every day with Open Space. Anyone who drops by can listen, join in the dancing, take part in a quiz, or simply spend the evening right in the heart of the city. Concerts, dance evenings, DJ sets, sing-alongs, quiz nights, activities for children and tastings take turns. The Stadtmusikantenspiel also takes place again on Sundays. Open Space Domshof shows just how diverse and open urban spaces can be used – and what happens when people come together outdoors. All events are free of charge – only a small contribution towards costs is charged for the tastings, provided you want to take part and not just watch.

Live music is on the programme several times a week – ranging from folk, classical, early music, opera and jazz to pop, world music and rap. Around half of the concerts are organised by students, staff and alumni of the HfK Bremen. DJ nights take place on several Friday evenings.

On Thursdays, people get together for after-work drinks: whether it’s a concert, a tasting session or a quiz night. On Saturdays, the market concerts round off a day’s shopping at the weekly market. Every day except Sundays, the Bremer Ratskeller serves drinks and light bites in its garden restaurant – and provides the perfect setting for relaxed summer evenings right in the heart of the city.
