Awards for students of the HfK composition departmentThe career of South Korean HfK student Youngjae Cho is picking up speed even before he graduates:He has just won the “International Student 3D Audio Production Competition” in the “Contemporary / Computer music” category. 3D audio is a music format in which the sound can be placed around the listener via loudspeakers or headphones to create a particularly immersive experience. Youngjae Cho, who is studying electroacoustic composition in the concert exam with Prof. Kilian Schwoon, previously received the jury's “Special Prize” at the “SoundChain” composition competition in Brno (Czech Republic) and a studio residency at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology in Zurich this year. He was also selected to participate in the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival and in Porto (Portugal) for the Sound and Music Computing Conference and the ISCM World New Music Days 2025, where HfK alumnus Jinwook Jung will also present his orchestral work “unerasing”. Jinwook Jung studied composition with Prof. Jörg Birkenkötter, as does Gihun Shin, whose piano piece “Sanjo” is one of the three finalist works of the “Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Franco Evangelisti”. It will be premiered in Rome on December 20, 2024.
