Klara Schwabe

Klara Schwabe (born 26 November 1997 in Hamburg) is a versatile jazz singer, pianist, and music educator with artistic roots in jazz, blues, and pop. Her musical journey began with classical piano lessons. She discovered her passion for singing thanks to a spontaneous suggestion from her piano teacher at the time – a formative experience that laid the foundation for her artistic path.

From 2018 to 2023, she studied jazz vocals at the University of the Arts Bremen with Romy Camerun. Since autumn 2023, she has been continuing her artistic training through the prestigious New York Jazz Master’s Programme in Groningen (NL). Her artistic and academic work explores the topic ‘Expression in my artistic musicianship – intertwining the piano with my voice’, in which she analyses the interplay between voice and piano in her musical expression.

Since 2019, she has worked as a vocal coach at the Wesermarsch Music School (Brake branch). Her teaching concept is based on a personalised approach to the voice, placing particular emphasis on the personal development of her students. Objectives such as overcoming fears, building self-confidence, and fostering joy in singing are central to her pedagogical approach. She combines technical fundamentals with artistic freedom to create space for creative growth.

As a performer, Klara Schwabe is active in various ensembles. With her own group, Quintett Klaire, she gave numerous concerts in Bremen and the surrounding area throughout 2022 and 2023. The project was awarded the Summerjazz Prize and released its debut EP Hi Fly in 2022. She has also been a member of the Farmersroad Blues Band since 2019, touring extensively across northern Germany. Their album We Play the Blues For You was released in 2021, and the band received the City of Elmshorn’s Culture Prize.

Further highlights of her artistic career include performances in New York City, her involvement in the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra (2020–2021), and her work as a pianist at the Bremen Theatre. In 2023, she was awarded the Drostei Prize by the city of Pinneberg and was previously granted a scholarship by the Klaus-Thimm Music Foundation.

Klara Schwabe’s voice is distinguished by its expressiveness, versatility, and broad dynamic range. She increasingly accompanies herself on the piano, lending her performances a unique intimacy and authenticity. Her stage presence is valued by audiences and fellow musicians alike – saxophonist Antonio Hart praised her, saying, ‘You have a beautiful voice!’, while jazz vocalist JD Walter remarked, ‘You sounded great. That’s not a compliment, it’s a fact.’

Further performances in New York City and a European tour with renowned guitarist Freddie Bryant are planned for the summer.
