Language Centre of the Universities of Bremen
The Language Centre of the Universities of Bremen (FZHB) is a joint institution run by Bremen’s four public universities: University Bremen (Universität Bremen), University of Applied Sciences Bremen (Hochschule Bremen), University of the Arts Bremen (Hochschule für Künste Bremen) and University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven (Hochschule Bremerhaven).
Students can choose from 20 languages and they can work on language programmes at the language self-tuition centre. Our language courses aim at stabilising existing knowledge as well as expanding it, so that communication with fellow students and teachers becomes easier. Additionally, by means of a language course, you can prepare your stay/studies abroad.
Learning languages is an integral part of many degree programmes. The HfK wants you to look at your studies as being a process of self-created learning. This aim is being supported by the language self-tuition centre. Naturally, German as a Foreign Language is part of that offer.
The language self-tuition centre is open to all students. It is located at Dechanatstraße, Room K.02a (Faculty of Music). Ask for the key at the porter’s lodge.

“As indicated by the word itself, in order to proceed, two parties have to make an effort”
Tandem is about two native speakers of different language backgrounds communicating with each other, so that each one of them can learn their partner’s language. Tandem partners are free to choose the subjects of their exchange. Basically, Tandem is a form of autonomous learning. It is not, however, a substitute for a language course – rather, it complements a course.
The learning parties can act according to their individual linguistic needs and interests. Furthermore, they automatically take a higher responsibility for their learning progress.
