In just a few years, from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery completely redefined the role of the guitar in jazz. Inspired by the playing style of saxophonists and pianists, he developed a melodious solo concept that continues to influence the style today. Bremerhaven guitarist Jörg Seidel, one of the
busiest representatives of swing jazz in the German-speaking world, has also been influenced by Montgomery's playing and has put together a high-calibre trio for a small tour to commemorate the outstanding guitarist of the 1960s.
In a classic organ trio line-up, Seidel plays Montgomery's compositions as well as standards that were part of his repertoire. Oliver Poppe, one of Germany's most important jazz pianists, plays the organ. Drummer Manuel Weyand travels from Seoul in South Korea. He is one of the most important musicians on the Korean mainstream jazz scene and is a skilled and virtuoso exponent of the bebop style. Jörg Seidel, who counts Tal Farlow and Django Reinhardt among his role models alongside Montgomery, has developed his own unique melodic style. Singable lines and harmonies reminiscent of Montgomery characterise his playing, which has accompanied Greetje Kauffeld, Bill Ramsey, Harry Allen, Doug Raney and Ron Williams, among others.
