Concert: Organ works by Dieterich Buxtehude

Waller Kirche

Concert with presentation of the new complete edition of Dieterich Buxtehude's organ works, edited by Prof. Dr. h. c. Harald Vogel (Breitkopf & Härtel)

Performed by: Prof. Dr. Krzysztof Urbaniak and students of the organ class

Demonstration lecture by Harald Vogel ‘The musical language of Buxtehude: its written and tonal form’

As a practical source edition, the new Buxtehude edition takes into account all information for interpretation that can be gleaned from Buxtehude's notation and knowledge of the instruments played by Buxtehude. The Praeludium ex G (BuxWV 147), which has not yet been edited in its original form, will be used as a ‘sample piece’ in Walle.

It is played on the organ in Walle Church, which was newly built in 2002 by the van der Putten organ workshop. The instrument has 26 stops on 2 manuals (great, chest positive) and pedal. It was modelled primarily on the Stellwagen organ from 1636 in St. James's Church in Lübeck, which was also played by Buxtehude. A special feature of the instrument in Waller Church is that it is tuned to mean tone with pure major thirds and contains three additional notes in the octave in the form of double upper keys (subsemitones).

The fascinating timbres of Buxtehude's time are present in the organ in Waller Church and offer a special sound experience.

Admission is free.
