- Professionalisierung Professionalisation in Fine Arts Summer Semester 2025 Objective: This course is aimed at students of Fine Arts and offers a practice-oriented introduction to key questions and challenges that arise after completing their studies. The goal is to provide a foundation for establishing a career as an independent artist and to explore individual pathways toward professional self-employment. Format: The seminar combines lectures, workshops, discussions, excursions, and hands-on exercises. Individual questions and concerns from participants are explicitly welcome and will be incorporated into the course design. Course Content and Topics: • Excursions within Bremen: Visits to selected art institutions and project spaces to explore various models of exhibition practices and organizational structures. • Funding, Grants, and Residencies: Overview of national and international open calls, funding programs, and artist residencies. Application strategies. • Writing About Your Own Artistic Practice: Development of texts such as artist statements, project descriptions, and CVs – essential for applications, catalogues, and websites. • Presenting and Speaking About One’s Work: Practical exercises in presenting one’s own work in various formats (artist talks, portfolios). • Self-Marketing and Public Relations: Reflection on strategies for visibility and positioning in the art world – balancing authenticity with professional presentation. • Introduction to the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK): Personal conversation with current board members about requirements, benefits, and practical matters concerning insurance through the KSK. • Art Market, Capital, and Investment: Discussion of the economic realities of the art world – including strategies for financial independence. • Visits and Exchanges with Professional Associations: Conversations and informational sessions at: o BBK Bremen (Professional Association of Visual Artists): Advice on professional matters such as insurance, contracts, and networks. o GEDOK Bremen: Focus on funding opportunities and networking
