Music Theory

Entry requirements: Candidates must complete a programme in musical performance OR music education, OR musicology (either a Bachelor’s or Diploma programme; to apply for this programme students must provide official documentation showing that they have begun the examination process) Candidates must successfully complete the entrance examination.

Duration: 4 semesters
Qualification: Master of Music

This comprehensive Master of Music programme provides an extensive grounding in the theory of music and will qualify students to teach music theory at music schools, academies and universities.

The programme’s open class system allows students to benefit from the wide-ranging expertise of our teaching staff in a comprehensive programme which includes artistic, historical and academic components in equal measure. A specialised module enables students to extend the scope of their studies to include the theoretical study of Early Music (1500-1800 A.D.), New Music or jazz under the tuition of experts from the respective fields.

An additional focus of this programme lies in enabling students to gain a high level teaching qualification at the University of the Arts through extensive teaching practice and tutorials.

A diverse range of optional modules from other study programmes available at the University of the Arts complement the programme’s core areas of study.
