-ENG- The video workshop offers means of production for sound and video recordings, digital sound and video editing (Resolve Studio), manual animation films, as well as individual project support for students. In addition to mere production, advice on the implementation of projects involving display and exhibition technology, (video-)installation and all conceivable modes of showing moving images also form part of the workshops service. The workshop rooms consist of several editing stations with high-performance computers, a film/video recording studio, an Audiobooth, copying systems for magnetic recording media and two animation rooms (dragon frame, downshooter setup). --- In addition to regular individual and plenary meetings to develop and support an individual integrating project, there is also the option of taking part in the project ‘Möbel Mode Mailand...schon wieder Körbe?’ (Furniture Fashion Fair...baskets again?) in co-teaching with Alexander Sahoo. If you choose an individual integrating project, I recommend taking part in my first semester course ‘Schlapfn, Patschen, Vinken, Espadrilles - Versuche zu Schuhen aus Gras’ as a warm-up. The individual approaches, methods and tools for the further design process are presented and discussed in the individual sessions and plenary sessions. The focus of this module is on the deepening and further elaboration of the individual research project on the Master's topic or an in-depth integrated project. The aim of the course is to independently analyze, reflect on, further develop and interpret instruments and methods of design processes. Collaboration, cooperation and exchange with fellow students in the Masterpool ID are expressly encouraged. Further informations in case of interest in the design project Furniture Fashion Fair ...or baskets again? In this design project, jointly supervised by Ursula Zillig and Alexander Sahoo, we will once again explore textile techniques such as braiding, weaving, winding, hemming and twisting - in the 3 dim. space. The products to be created are clearly defined: Head coverings and seating objects. The starting materials are linear elements from plants (grasses, straw, willows, bark, etc.). We plan to exhibit the results together at the Milan Furniture Fair (April 21-26, 2026). This course is designed in such a way that we strongly recommend booking it in a double pack (i.e. block A and block B). However, a single booking would not be an exclusion criterion. In Block A the focus is on headdresses, in Block B on seating objects. We go on excursions where we harvest materials ourselves and visit exhibitions and stores. Experts such as Gundel Liebmann, Dr. Charlett Wenig, Claudia Reuter and the volunteers from the Twistringen Straw Museum will give us introductions to handcrafted and machine-supported production methods. Kai Lehmann and Brigitte Stadler will prepare you for hat making in a short workshop. From there, you can develop and materialize your design ideas directly from the making process. CW Block A 42–48 (13.10.- 28.11.) Core times Thursdays 10:00 to 17:30 Fridays 9:00 to 16:30 Workshops and excursions (Please note that some also include Wednesday) Block A 15. to 17.10. Experiments on grass shoes. Course Description What does the Iceman have to do with high-priced collections such as Loewe, Chloé and Stella McCartney? Even though Oetzi already used vegan material for his footwear, straw shoes and grass slippers still led a niche existence as folklore or short-lived beach accessories in this century. The traditional straw shoes, often born out of necessity, survived as Patschen or Vinken, especially in southern Germany, and only as espadrilles did they regularly achieve a brief, often strong-smelling hype due to the non-traditional use of cheap adhesives. At the same time, awareness of and demand for recyclable and vegan shoe options has been on the rise since the 2020s. But reason alone does not create desire. So where does this longing for a reinterpretation of traditional craftsmanship and natural materials for classic and experimental shoe shapes - not only among designers in the luxury segment but also among customers - come from, alongside a growing awareness of sustainability? For our course, we will therefore bring coiling and braiding techniques in natural materials to your feet to investigate this phenomenon. We observe, copy, de- and reconstruct or fuse typical shapes and features of slippers, sandals (also very meaningful) and other classic shoes. We design in 2D and 3D and also try our hand at the basics of fashion design such as collages, scribbles, sketches, flats and specs. We will provide a small selection of natural materials (raffia, corn straw and water lily cord, rushes and rush grass, jute ribbon etc.) and some types of soles - if you don't want to make them yourself. For everything else you will receive a list of materials by email after the course registration deadline. You can also start looking for local materials now. There are apps that can help you identify plants. One week is short - but we will try to have your prototypes photographed by the course participants from Joachim Baldauf's course. There are also examples on @hfkfashion and @damadem.
