Historical Lute Instruments

The work with students includes the diverse aspects of lute playing, which, in addition to the development of solo repertoire, also includes chamber music and basso continuo. The course emphasis a thorough methodical approach that should enable students to develop new repertoire areas independently. Studying sources plays an important role here. Another focus is the differentiated treatment of basso continuo playing. In addition to the fundamentals of compositional and instrument-specific techniques, the focus is particularly on a stylistically differentiated style of playing. Master classes and symposiums on lute music topics complement the studies. Its spectrum is expanded through collaboration with other HfK teachers and participation in interdisciplinary projects. The HfK Bremen provides several Renaissance lutes, two theorbos and a Baroque lute for the lute class.
