Self-organisation at work and in everyday life is not a major challenge for many people. After all, there are various tools available to help with this. What comes naturally to people outside the autism or ADHD spectrum often causes stress, pressure and overwhelm for neurodivergent individuals. According to the RKI, the proportion of people with ASD is estimated at 1% of the population and for ADHD at 5–6%. And yet there are hardly any digital tools on the market that are designed to meet the specific needs of this target group.
Timm Bölke and Bianca Holtschke have addressed precisely this problem faced by neurodivergent adults and developed a ‘digital wheelchair ramp’ for cognitive and social participation as a solution. Both are familiar with the hurdles that the autism spectrum entails. Bölke is an economist and studies mathematics and psychology. Holtschke studied integrated design and is currently pursuing a doctorate in design theory at the HfK Bremen. In November 2025, the two founders won the CAMPUSSIDEEN ideas competition in the ‘Impact Award’ category for their project ‘Neurodiversity AI (ND AI)’. Now they are looking for alpha testers!
What is ND-AI?
Neurodiversity AI is a personalised AI assistant for people with autism and/or ADHD. As a translator, it makes subtexts visible, prepares appointments and structures to-do lists into manageable steps. The AI can also prepare its users for social situations such as meetings or private appointments. This reduces cognitive strain and stress, creating new opportunities for authentic participation in work, study and everyday life. The team has opted for a low-stimulus design and clear hierarchies in the front end. Pop-ups and gamification have been deliberately avoided. All tools can be adapted to individual sensory needs.
Good to know!
Although the app was developed by autistic people for autistic people, it is suitable for anyone who struggles with certain everyday situations, regardless of diagnosis. ND-AI is not a medical device and, thanks to EU hosting, operates according to zero-knowledge principles. In future, the app will also be offered to universities and companies as an accessible tool to increase opportunities for participation.
Anyone interested in supporting the app as an alpha tester or simply sharing their wishes and needs is welcome to contact the development team directly at mail@nd-ai.eu.
